World Class Golf

World-class Golf championship courses near Ardmore include Old Head of Kinsale, famous for its 300ft cliffs, and Mount Juliet. Both the Fota Island Golf Club and Waterford Castle Golf are within an hour’s drive. For a quick round of golf at a local course, there’s Youghal Golf Club, Dungarvan Golf Club, The Gold Coast, or West Waterford Golf Club.

Cycling The Greenway

Cycling The Waterford Greenway, which runs 46 kilometres from Waterford to Dungarvan, is a fantastic trail following an old rail line across eleven bridges, three viaducts and through a 400-metre tunnel. Private guides and bike hire can be arranged, with the trail broken down into any number of manageable parts to suit different levels of cycling ability.

Travels along the River

Travels along the River Blackwater include visits to Lismore, a historic riverside village where you can pick up an eco-cruise. Private tours can be arranged at Tourin House, an 1840s Italianate creation, and Dromana House, home to the Villiers-Stuart family for over 700 years. Lismore Castle is a must for its contemporary art shows.

Wild Hiking

Wild Hiking is one of the region’s main lures, especially the 7.5 kilometre walk around Coumshingaun, overlooking the surrounding mountains and a glacier- formed lake. The Mahon Falls is another popular hike, while the Vee Pass in the Knockmealdown Mountains offers breath-taking views over Ireland’s ‘Golden Vale’.

Field Sports, including shooting, hunting and fishing, are among County Waterford’s main draws. Some of Ireland’s best salmon fly fishing can be found near Ardmore. Irish horses are admired all over the world for their endurance, making a day’s hunting a thrilling experience for horse-riders. Shooting parties can be accommodated at local estates.
